Our Adoption From Ukraine

Monday, October 23, 2006

Not much new today. Our paperwork has been submitted and we hope to tomorrow when our court date will be.

We found out this afternoon that they kids are on holidays from school this week so we will start going to see them from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. as well as 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. We are practising English with them everyday. We went through a bunch of food items with them today to see what they like....need to start getting some ideas for home. We have been giving them Flintstones vitamins everyday and they think they are candy....don't know how to explain that they are not and vitamins are not in our book...so they are candy for now!

We figured out today that Nadia seems to like gymnastics. We tried to ask her today if she would like to go to gymnastics when she gets to Canada and she said yes...so we hope that she knows what we are taking about. She said no to swimming, but she may have thought that Brad wanted to know if she could swim. Well she is going for swimming lessons. We strongly believe that every child should know how to swim. They can also not go to my parents in Arizona if they can't swim!!

Hi Kim and Brad,

I get so excited when I read your mail. I was off work last week for 3 days, so had no computer access. Ally and your mom kept me updated. If you little girl is interested in gymnastics, then she and Em will have something in common. Em is always trying to teach the girls gymnastics at recess and I have to keep telling her that she is not an instructor and has to be careful what she teaches them. Anyways, we're looking so forward to meeting them. Take care. Love you.

Very exciting news!

Alexander is pretty pumped about this. He wants to learn to speak Ukranian. He takes it at school, but I think he's making these words up. goomka - glue, abetka - alphabet? Zoshet -notebook. Brad can you check this out for me, I need to check his homework. Alex wants to invite the Boy and girl over to watch every episode of Star Wars. He thinks it's important that they know what thats all about. He wants to know if these kids are super star soccer players because Ukraine was in the world cup. Alex thinks these kids must be incredibly smart that they know how to speak Ukranian so well at such a young age. "It's taking me forever - and I only know 4 words"!!

I organized a "Meet Martin Night" at Rosdale hall for tomorrow evening at 7:00 and plastered the neighbourhood mailboxes with signs and phoned a bunch of people. Hopefully there is a decent turn out.
